Victorian Decor

I am inviting friends for a Victorian Gothic Dinner Party. I need Very cheap ideas for decor. Thanks!?

Gothic period: middle ages.
Think heavy stonework, arches, carved figures (saints, gargoyles, Grotesque faces) and lots of religious paintings (remember that this period came before the renaissance, so the figures and forms were simpler).

Victorian era: Think "Gothic Revival" with many more choices. Many more fabrics were available, like velvet. Very ornate items; so look for things like candelabras, and things with lots of details and textures.

You could use small statues; gargoyles and such. If you don't have any, there should be some available at garden stores, thrift shops, craft stores. Also; look for halloween decorations; plastic reproductions of gothic figures.

Look for velvet pillows in rich colors at thrift stores.

Look for fabric; remanents at fabric stores. Velvets, black lace, black taffeta, are thinks you could use as tablecloths.

Look for posters of period artwork. Or print off copies of period paintings from your computer.

Look around your home: display any old looking knick-nacks together on a shelf or table, maybe sit the nicknacks on a piece of velvet or taffeta.

You can use ornate silver ware that you already have. You can find plastic serving items that look like silver at party stores or sometimes thrift shops.
