Permanent and Temporary Joining of Materials?

Explain a permanent method of joining materials (Excluding Adhesives!)

and explain 2 methods of temporarily joining materials together. (: Good luck.

Zombie, almost any method of joining materials is temporary - it's just a matter of having the right tools to un-join them. Two components nailed together need a hammer or prybar to separate them, components joined by screwing call for a screwdriver to undo them - even welded components are routinely separated using a grinder. Welding is about as permanent as it gets, though - the two materials are bonded at a molecular level. There are a *lot* of ways to weld material, from conventional stick, mig, and tig welding of metals to solvent or heat welding of plastics. Some more exotic methods involve friction, lasers, electron beams, or even explosive bonding of dissimilar materials. This is an area with new methods being developed on an ongoing basis. Some information about explosive welding is online at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Explosion_welding - check it out!
