Why is special floss used to floss teeth - why can't cotton sewing thread be used instead?
I've never understood why you need to use a special floss to floss teeth. Why can you not just use cotton sewing thread instead?
The dental floss you buy is coated with a special waxy substance so when you remove the food from the teeth it sticks to the floss. Regular thread would work in a pinch, but it's much thinner, and you could easily cut your gums and not get all of the food and junk removed because the thread doesn't have that 'sticky coating' to remove the junk.
