No, Special Kitty is a good cat food. In the fat of it the worst on the market. Let me share with you what I have learned about feline nutrition to help you make an informed decision about the plan You should feed your cat. Many brands of manufactured cat food claiming to be "healthy" really are not. In fact, they are made with ingredients as low as possible. I'm not saying that the cat can not live off them ... choosing just the same as you could live off hot dogs and Mac and cheese forever, but better is can and should be made for your feline friends. I would not say that any manufactured food is "best" for a cat but a grain free organic wet food would be a good start. Feeding canned is certainly better than feeding dry in all cases. Cats have never been designed to eat dry food, also known as cereals or kibble. We humans, make them eat for convenience to us. He has nothing to do with them or their nutritional needs. It is completely inappropriate species. In the wild, cats derive their entire liquid intake of their prey. They do not have a thirst mechanism because they do not need it, when a species appropriate diet. They have everything they need what they eat. So they do not drink the water. Regular ol house cats "are descended from those same wild cats. Thus, in a family, your cat does not get the moisture must be dry food and are almost always in a constant state of dehydration. Water fountains are encouraged to try to get your cat to drink more and your cat may even enjoy it. But it will never meet its water intake needs drinking a bowl. Fatal feline diseases such as renal failure diabetes, obesity, stones, urinary tract blockages and infections urinary (FLUTD), with and without deadly crystals are rampant these days. Cats are not taking enough water to repel them. Water consumption through to adequate food of appropriate species alone can prevent most of these conditions. Overall, wet is a better all around better for any system cat food, either canned or Raw and they should never be fed dry cereal kibble if we are to best meet their nutritional wild food needs. Kibble meets our needs ... not our cats. It is also bogus that kibble cleans teeth. CROQUETTES NOT clean teeth. This is an old myth that has been scientifically disproved for years, but the old veterinary school he drilled into people's heads during so long (and sadly still today) that people still believe. Cats can not "chew". They do not chew teeth. They have meat ripping pointy carnivorous teeth. They do not have molars. They may "crunch" a piece of food once to crack and break ... but they are absolutely unable to chew a piece if food drive. You want your cat to have clean teeth? Give them an appropriately sized raw bone. : O) I personally feed a raw meat and bones diet based on my cats and they are very healthy on it. I highly recommend it. Once I was the hang of it and felt comfortable with it it is a snap to prepare. It's something you might consider one day. They are carnivores after all and must derive all their nutrients from meat based sources. They are unable to absorb any other source. Despite thousands of years of domestication they remain strictly carnivorous. Meat eaters true and honest and that is what they need most. Proteins meat! If you are interested in feeding a raw diet some great places to start learning are http://www.catinfo.org/, Http: / / www.catnutrition.org/ and http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/. If you want to try raw with your cats and do not want to get all technical about it, but want to try a trusted, time tested and balanced raw diet you can order from http://www.felinespride.com/products/catfood.aspx. I bought myself when I started and my cats loved it! If raw is not an option for you please be aware that there are three types of feed: - "Grocery store" foods - (Generic Brands and cheap name brands) Those foods found in grocery stores and mass market retailers are made with lower quality, less-digestible, inexpensive ingredients and are therefore an alternative cheaper. Although easy to the Portfolio, "grocery store" foods normally do not provide your cat with the healthiest, most of the rich ingredients nutrients. -Premium foods - (Iams / Eukanuba, Purina One, Hills Science Diet, Nutro, etc.) Foods often found in grocery stores, pet shops, and veterinary offices that contain high-grade ingredients, but still include many elements of "grocery store" food, such as artificial colors, artificial flavors, chemical preservatives, and "filler" ingredients such as corn and wheat products, by-products animals and even digest. Yuck! Premium foods are usually more expensive than "grocery store" foods because their ingredients are sometimes of a quality, and are therefore somewhat more beneficial and digestible. But do not be fooled, some of these so-called premium brands are sometimes worse than the food groceries, but they are asking prices, as they are better. They are not! Healthy foods - (Wellness, Merrick, Eagle Pack, Drs Foster & Smith) The most newest addition to the pet food market - provide pets with the best quality, healthier, more nutritious ingredients. They are generally available for purchase online or directly from the manufacturer. Some retailers have started to move better now. Petmart complete performs some healthy food brand. Food health class contain nutrient-rich ingredients. Formulated to provide optimum health benefits for animals, these foods often use real meat as the main source of protein, carbohydrate-rich whole grains like brown rice and barley and whole fruits and vegetables. They should not contain artificial preservatives, flavors or colors. They will almost always be fortified with vitamins and minerals further and use the best natural sources of fatty acids to help build healthy skin and a beautiful coat. Because healthy foods use High quality ingredients, you should expect to pay a little more than you would for other types of feed. Remember, However, with healthy foods you can feed less since healthy foods are richer in nutrients than other types of food so it often evens out or the cost of food as food full of good non-nutritional aspects charges. With all this information in mind, when you choose a new cat food, study the ingredients. All ingredients on the labels of feed are listed by weight. Meaning all the ingredients are listed first on the list, there are more there. The first ingredients listed should be whole meat ingredients, the sources of proteins such as chicken or turkey. Not only the word "meat"! Who the hell knows what it is? Chicken meal word is correct, but it should be an ingredient second, not first. Meal is the meat dehydrated and ground into powder. The ingredients must not contain animal by-products or digest whatsoever. Those are disgusting left over animal parts that are scraped off the floors dirty plants for meat and poultry. They just go to the trash, but they put them in pet food instead. EW! In addition, make sure there are no artificial colors or flavors. And make sure there is no BHA and BHT used preservatives. These preservatives have been shown to cause cancer in cats and dogs. Bad bad things and it is in almost every cat treat on the market. : (So in summer ingredients ... if you see the words by-products, Animal Digest, the word "meat" alone, corn, corn gluten, wheat gluten, or BHA or BHT ... stop reading, put this and the next one. Be aware that when you switch to healthy food, holistic or organic, you will pay for what you get. Good food is not cheap. They are expensive and will cost, on a lot more per bag. Like steak costs more than hotdogs. But again, you will eat better food and better health for all of your animal. This leads to veterinary visits for diseases less now and more importantly later in life in their geriatric years. You will also have less food of the food on a per animal basis because a smaller amount of food contains what your cat needs. Overall healthy foods are well worth it, if only for peace of mind that the ingredients are best for your cat than cheap crap. You can start your search for a healthy cat food here if you are not ready to try feeding a raw food diet: If you want to buy http://www.onlynaturalpet.com in a store, Complete Petmart is a good store and carries a good few natural, organic, and holistic blends. Also check with your local feed / grain stores. I highly recommend you take the time to research for you, but the information I have given should get off at a good start. Good luck choosing a new healthy food! ******** IMPORTANT ******* Do not forget to switch your Pets food slowly over a period of 10 to 14 days, if you can. The mixture of 25% to 75% of new ones. Then ... 50/50 and 75% to 25% of new old. And finally pass 100% new. Take your time not to upset their digestive system. Please note next ... Do not feed Iams / Eukanuba. It all charges, derivatives, animal digest and CRAP. Read the ingredients! There is nothing good for your cat in that food. Not to mention they conduct the tests the animals most appalling that you have ever seen. http://www.iamscruelty.com to see the terror they create. Keeps food I can recommend based on experience personally before going to my cats a raw diet entirely organic-Drs.
