How to legalize a pirated copy of Windows XP Pro?
I "inherited" a computer that came stock with XP Home, but had an illegal copy of XP Pro installed on it. I have purchased an OEM disc for Windows XP Pro - is there a way to break into the code for the OEM disk I have, to make the current copy of XP Pro legal, or will I have to reformat and start from scratch with the OEM version?
There are two ways to change the product key. I suggest you edit the registry (easiest) Start by opening the Registry Editor (Type "regedit" in the test) and navigating to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Microsoft Windows NT Version Current WPAEvents In the right pane, right-click the binary value ODBETimer and select Edit. Change at least one character of this value is a number from 0 to 9 or letter A to F, and then click OK and close the editor register. This makes the current product key invalid and deactivates Windows. Now it is time to reactivate Windows using your new product key. Click Start | Run and enter the command: C: system32 oobe msoobe / A (if C: ..
