tips for cross stitching a childs quilt?
I'm cross stitching a quilt for my 5yr old niece, I'm wondering if I need a backing sewn on the back to cover & protect the stitching while she sleeps, the kit only came with generic instruction for regular cross stitching. I would appreciate any and all advice.

yes, a backing is advisable. it will give the quilt longevity too.
one tip, though -- if necessary/required, wash both your embroidery cloth as well as the backing fabric before sewing to allow for any shrinkage. or check for washing instructions to ensure that there is no shrinkage - uneven shrinking of fabrics will mar your hard work.
