Watering New Planted Trees - 10 Points?
We planted new trees in the middle of June, and I was wondering how often, and how much should I water them. One is a green crabapple, and one is a purple/red leaved tree. They are all about 1 1/2 months old. The crabapples leaves are pretty good, but some branches have no leaves at all. The red/purpleish ones are close to dying, very few leaves on branches through out, and some leaves at top. Leaves look brown with little holes in them. So how often and how much should I water both trees. Thanks, best anwser will get rewarded 10 Points. Thanks Again. PS. I have not made a hill type cone around the trunks , it's flat, and also we did not put any black dirt, just the dirt we dug up to plant them.

Once daily, early morning, late evening or (if you have a timer) best at the middle of the night. Be consistent too, don't water in the morning 1 day and the next at night.
Water deep, but don't drown, in a ring about the tree (imaging it being in a two gallon pot and make sure you soak down the entire surface area of the pot (or ring a soaker hose at about that distance (8"=10"). You want to do this to encourage root growth out from the tree.
While you want to watch the leaves to make sure they're not wilting -don't be surprised if you lose a lot. The trees going to look funky this year, it will improve next.
Do make sure you add some a good mulch this fall (will help overwinter too). DO NOT FERTILIZE this year or you may fry the roots
On the upside crabapples are really hard to kill.
